The Moment You Discovered Poykpac!

My former NC roommate Ryan Hunter called me up back in the days of my first tour of duty on the west coast to tell me that Mr. Gillette had invited him to join his comedy troupe. I was like, "Sure, that sounds like good times Ryan." Little did I know that it would turn into the cultural phenomenon that is... POYKPAC!

My first, "Holy shit, Poykpac is gettin' huge!" moment happened when I was living on Avenue of Puerto Rico in Brooklyn. It was 4-20-06 and I stopped at the weed dealers downstairs to buy a bag of celebration. I went across the street to the bodega and ran into a guy named Justin who vagrantly lived on our couch in my North Carolina days. He invited me around the corner to a hipster hideout, where his friends and I smoked and drank and smoked some more. It was the only time I ever saw Justin in New York. There was still a bit of weirdness between us, because I had just recently found out that he and our other vagrant roommate were responsible for a bum stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics from our house. But, nothing would hinder us from getting high and then... weird... in honor of 4-20.

At one point, one of these high new strangers decided to tell the gathering about his plans to put on a live comedy show. A pretty young lady in the room said, "Yeah, but Poykpac does ________." I can't remember what she said next, as the Daniel Stern voice in my Kevin Arnold head took over.

"Could this be? Poykpac? After all this time, I finally know what it feels like to love, and to be loved. The girl of my dreams knows about Poykpac. I wonder if I smell good..."

So, please share the moment you discovered Poykpac, or an interesting story of someone else telling you about Poykpac, and you thinking that it might be a sign that you guys should fellate each other, but probably doesn't happen.

Imagine the disappointment of someone earnestly clicking the topic "The Moment You Discovered Poykpac" only to find that their story isn't valid unless it also involves an attempt (successful or otherwise) to parlay their discovery into some sort of sexual encounter. I don't know what demographic you're targeting here, Tyler, but judging from the lack of response to this post, it has yet to find POYKPAC, this forum, or you.

And while I don't doubt your integrity in the least, your story does strike me as being slightly incredible. I mean, at the time this tale allegedly occurred, our group had only been in existence for 3 months, had never performed live, had been in possession of a Youtube account for a little over a week, and had been calling ourselves "POYKPAC" for roughly that long. Granted, we had done a few screenings, all of which consisted of us coaxing a handful of our unluckiest neighbors into our apartment every few days to give us feedback on the same 3 videos over and over again, and I don't remember any of our guests being particularly "pretty."

All I'm saying is, I can't think of any explanation whatsoever for how (or why) the gal in your story was name-dropping the word "POYKPAC" back in April of 2006, but let's not rule out the supernatural.

I discovered Poykpac when youtube had Mario: Game Over on their featured videos. Being the video game fan I am, I saw it and liked it, but I kept watching their videos because they were using original ideas and not just doing a bunch of video game parodies.

The first POYKPACer I met was Jonny Gillette, before it was called POYKPAC. I was a Boom Operator on a shitty movie called Aftermath, he was the Props Master. Before we knew it, we were making fun of all the same people, including the talentless Anthony Michael Hall. (He could be seen spinning in circles before takes to give the appearance of technique)

A few laughs later, he invited me to a comedy group he and some friends were cooking up.

I took this picture... I wish he would upload the pic of him pointing a gun at a special someone else.

On the same set, Ryan Hunter would pop in from time to time, running film back and forth to the big city. He would always arrive with a great story of someone breaking off his rear-view-mirror, or spitting on his window. Those were the days.

A few months later, we met with all 1 million members and came up with a name and started filming.

A funny side note. Jonny will forever claim that I got him fired from that job. We got caught making fun of the director because the mic I was holding was left on. We were pretending to throw a temper-tantrum like our hack of a director did so many times on set. He then rounded the corner pointing to his headphones.

I found poykpac on a friends myspace, the mario game over. I have been a huge old school gamer fan especially when it comes to stuff like mario and other original nes characters. When i saw this video i was laughin my ass off cuz the characters were so perfect. Ive seen a lot of parodies but ide have to say thats the best ive seen in a long time. I think its more convincing then that ghetto mario movie back in the 90s or somthin. well ill keep an eye out for your other stuff so nice job and good luck.

I know Taige and he told me to watch some new videos he and his friends made on youtube. It was about last year this time, some of the first poykpac vids.

I saw the Mario: Game Over video and thought it was hilarious. You guys took an idea from Mario and made it funny. I wish I could come up with stuff like that. Laughing

I'm definitely gonna check out the other videos from this site. Very Happy

I discovered Poykpac looking really sad and covered in cracker crumbs on a park bench so I offered them a dollar and a friendly ear and I've been closely involved with their rehabilitation ever since.
